Meg Macy's Bear Witness To Murder

Meg Macy has the second book in her teddy bear mystery series coming out at the end of the month from Kensington and it is such a good read. This second book in the series doesn't disappoint and the relationship between Sasha and her Sister Maddie is a very good one, I like their dynamic and I like how this second part of the story unfolds. Sasha is a strong character who is easy to relate too, I love her dedication to the bear store and factory and to her little puppy. The story line was good and I did not truly have the whole thing figured out until the end but I did some of it coming, but I kind of enjoyed that. I loved the cuddly nature of the story and the theme of OktoBear Fest. Made me wish I truly lived in a small town with fun activities like this. A great read and a great series. I cannot wait for the next one. I hope it is Christmas themed!

As autumn air settles into the quaint small town of Silver Hollow, there’s nothing more popular than Sasha’s teddy bears—and murder in cold blood . . .  Silver Bear Shop and Factory manager Sasha Silverman is cozying up to the fall season by hosting Silver Hollow’s Cranbeary Tea Party, the opening event of the village’s Oktobear Fest—a too-cute celebration themed around teddy bears. She barely has a moment to agonize over the return of her former high school rival, Holly Parker, whose new toy and bookstore in town could spell big trouble for the Silver Bear Shop and her cousin’s small bookstore . . . But when Sasha discovers Holly’s shop assistant dead with a knife plunged in her body, the unpleasant woman suddenly looks like a real backstabber. So does Sasha’s ex-husband, rumored to have rekindled the fiery extramarital affair he once had with the victim. Now, before a gruesome homicide case takes the fun out of both the Fest and her personal life, Sasha must identify the true culprit from a daunting suspect list—or risk becoming as lifeless as one of her stuffed bears . . .

On My Table and In My Cup April 29th to May 6th

It has been a crazy week, so much has happened and it is hard to get my head around it all. This week has had its ups and fair share of downs, and I shall be glad to say goodbye to it!
I am happily distracted by the wonderful book Death in Dark Blue on my table today from Julia Buckley. It is hard to put down, but I have put it away reluctantly so I could write today's post. This one is out now and a dream to read.
My Puppy Niece and I snuck our teeth in to Kathleen Bridge's Ghostal living this week and loved it. This was a lovely addition to the series, Meg is a strong and wonderful character. Lots of gritty characters to suspect in this one, fun read for sure.
I had a really bad reaction to Shelfish this week and am now the proud/reluctant owner of an Epi Pen. The doctor pointed out to me that had I eaten a prawn he and I would not be having the conversation we were having as I would not be here to hear it,  and that any woman who carried a purse as big as mine had no excuse for not carrying one. In my defence 20 years ago when I learned of my allergy no one had epi pens. It was not the way I hoped to spend my mother in laws 70th birthday dinner but she kindly saved me cake. Also my husband kindly brought my book to the hospital and as the medicine wore off enough I was able to read one chapter.
Home and able to share my tribute to Star Wars day, though without my normal energy, I love using my teapot a birthday gift a few years back from my sisters and nieces and nephews. It is too cute.
I was thrilled this week too! In addition to getting a very advanced reading copy of CeeCee James book this week Booked for Murder, if you have a good eye you may have noticed a new teacup on my table. I was over the moon to find a 1940's Shelley Tea Cup at a local charity shop for $20.

While my teacups are in use regularly and not really a collection that just sit and collect dust. I may have to put this one on the shelf occasionally for display, though this one is so pretty it is hard not to want to use it every day. I love the shape and feel of it, a prize find for sure and a great addition to my working collection. I have used it a few times this week, with my Vanilla Black tea from Murchies and a few cups of  Peppermint tea.
Alice Loweecey had me laughing this week with her delightful book The Clock Strikes Nun, this one is out at the end of the month and such a fantastic series! Also all these apples are gone! Looking at this photo reminds me of how much my kids are growing and how fast they can consume these tasty treats, I must pick up a few more bags this week!
Sunday I shared my review of Meg Macy's new series about a teddy bear shop. I think this book is a great idea for a cozy series! I hope you will too.
This week I got some wonderful new releases to make my way through and downloaded some great treasures as well on my kindle app. I feel so lucky to be able to read and review what I do and even more grateful to have you here to join me for a cup of tea and a week in review.
I look forward to sharing more with you soon. I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com

Meg Macy's Bearly Departed

This morning I finished Meg Macy's May 30th first in a new series from Kensington called Bearly Departed. I really enjoyed this story and mystery. Loved the setting and suspense and first time in awhile I was pleased with who the victim was. I don't often "root" for someone to "murder" a character in a story but I will say I had a sigh of relief with this one. I love the idea of the Bear shop and all the wonderful small town charm this cozy offers. This was an easy to relate to cozy, with a great bunch of characters waiting to be discovered. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

As manager of the family teddy bear shop and factory, thirty-one-year-old Sasha Silverman leads a charmed life. Well, except for the part about being a single divorcĂ©e with a ticking biological clock in small-town Silver Hollow. And that’s just kid’s stuff compared to Will Taylor, the sales rep who’s set on making drastic changes to the business her parents built from scratch—with or without Sasha’s approval . . .But before Will digs his claws in, someone pulls the stuffing out of his plan . . . and leaves his dead body inside the factory. Reeling from shock, Sasha’s hit with more bad news—police suspect her hot-tempered Uncle Ross may have murdered him. Sasha knows her uncle would never do such a thing, and she’s launching her own little investigation to expose the truth. As she tracks Will’s biggest rivals and enemies for clues, Sasha can’t get too comfy—or she’ll become the next plaything for a killer . . .

On My Table and In My Cup April 22th-29th

Saturday morning after a very busy week, I am just barely started Bearly Departed by Meg Macy, and there is still so much cake/pie left, honestly you should drop by...
I can not remember a time I felt more warmth and love around my birthday. I feel so very lucky to have such an amazing group of friends and family who really went out of their way to make this birthday so special. This is a week I will remember for sure. It was heavy on friendship and love, not so much on reading sadly but I am getting back into that.
My sister and I tried paint night of the 27th of April, painting lighthouses which is really something more for me then her. I was so thrilled she wanted to come with me to give this class a try. I left with something I am quite proud of and though I love mine, the top of my sisters lighthouse was so much better then mine! She even got the lines right!

The above only represents a very small portion of the birthday confections I am working my way through, not seen are a sheet cake from costco which is delightful, a smores pie as well as cookies that arrived yesterday, truly spoiled for my tea times I tell you!
I read a lovely Cozy Mystery Short with A Murderous Valentine, by Beverley Watts, loved the characters, the dog in this book has a fantastic name! Strong characters, wit, humor and great lines.

I also loved the Spring Cleaning Murders by Dorothy Cannell this week, I cried at the end, you will love it.

In my cup this week I have had my lovely stand by my Murchies Vanilla Black tea, as well as several cups of Peppermint tea and a beautiful Jasmine tea I recieved for my birthday. I promise to share a review on that soon, and I promise to get back to reading!
Thank you for joining me for a cup of tea and a week in review. I look forward to sharing more with you again tomorrow. I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com
