A Little Free Library, Would You Have One On Your Property?

The first time I ever saw a free little library I was on a family vacation to Hawaii, it was just s shelf at a park filled with books for others to help themselves too, I thought this was a great idea. I only wish I could find the photo to share with you today but I will keep looking. The above is in Florida!

Then I started to notice other free little libraries on line, on busy city streets, in neighborhoods and I thought about having one where I live.

We rent but our neighborhood thought it would be a great idea, someone even offered to build one but no one wanted to put it up where they lived.

I can no help it I think I would love this the most! I had to share it is fantastic!
Even if you are not handy with a hammer you can buy a ready made tiny library on Etsy for $179+ Click here to see the Etsy listing from the Tiny Library Shop! I really want one now!
They even sell ones with lights!
I still would love one and I thought it would be fun to share some photos of ones I found on line that I love, if you have one or live near one please let me know about it! I may have to seriously think about getting out a saw, hammer and nails and trying my hand at making one! I will keep you posted!
Thinking of building your own try this PDF on how to build one.
For now I will work on the inventory! Lord knows I could fill a few free little libraries alone.
Thank you for joining me for a cup of tea and a cozy mystery. I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com

  2. There is one near our cabin, about a half mile away. They take it down over the winter but it is great to have it there. I have taken a few books to add to it. And I have found some books that I had been looking for and one I never would have picked up at a store but it was so fun! Yes, if my home weren't out in the country on a gravel (dusty) road, I would like to put one up near my home. But there aren't many people in our neighborhood.

    1. Such a wonderful idea! yes ours would have to be rain tight here for the wet west coast. I think it would be a wonderful addition to any neighborhood.

  3. My cousin has had one in her yard for several years now. She's a librarian in Iowa.

    1. I think that is just so wonderful. I love the idea of being the caretaker of one of these. I hope I can make and maintain one very soon!

  5. Fabulous post. I love the concept and the wonderful pictures you've shared. Appreciate the PDF with directions too. Got me thinking and I found quite a few on Pinterest as well. Here's a link to the "official" Board - https://www.pinterest.com/ltlfreelibrary/ though of course there are quite a few others. I'll have to go looking to see if there is a place in the area that might be open to one if a ready made was offered to them. Like Elaine I'd love one near my home but country roads don't seem the place they would find use.
Thanks for your oh so fun posts and sharing. I smile every time one of your post updates hits my email inbox!

  6. I would certainly have one in front of my house. The sad truth of the matter is, the books would all disappear over night, and no one would leave others. :-(
