I Am Already Missing Lotus Bay. With Baited Breath by Lorraine Bartlett

Okay it is Saturday afternoon and my weekend plans were to read and do little else this weekend. Yesterday I was again disappointed by the lack of mail and fear I am loosing faith in my postal system. I have had several books and packages now go missing and as I faced the weekend again with nothing to read I finally broke down and bought With Baited Breath for my Kindle App. Truth be told I made my husband do it, I have not got the faintest idea how. I really prefer the paper books that sit like trophies on my shelf then reading the electronic versions. I know I need to get over it but it is taking me some time. I guess I am a bit set in my ways. Lorraine Bartlett is one of my most favorite authors. Her other books (often under her other pen names) are some of my most favorite cozies. The Lotus Bay Mystery series I can happily say is one of her best yet. Lorraine knows how to write strong and wonderful female characters and this book is no exception.

I truly found I could not put the book down and as I had expected it would take the entire weekend to read I am again going to have to go back to stalking the mail man.  Picturing the area of Lotus Bay and the surrounding area made this book so intriguing. I was so busy "getting to know everyone and wandering around town" in my head I forgot temporarily that there was a mystery to solve! I honestly was taken a back by the stories turns and plot twists and held my breath in a couple of places.
I can not wait to read the next in this series and I may still order the paper back for bragging rights! My only regret from this book is that there was no egg salad sandwich recipe at the end! I truly am having a craving for one now and you will have to read this wonderful book to find out why!

  1. Hi Karen, I am a fan of Lorraine Bartlett / Lorna Barrett as well, but this book and series is completely unfamiliair to me. Like you, I prefer reading paperbooks. Is this an e-book series only?

  2. I'm so glad you enjoyed the book, Karen. There's a reason I didn't include the recipe for egg salad. It's because I couldn't include the one missing ingredient that makes the egg salad so good. It has to be made with love. I found that out after I lost my Dad, who used to make THE BEST egg salad in the world. I've made egg salad at least a dozen times during the past five years, but it is never, ever as good as what my Dad made. I use the same bread, the same eggs, the same olives, the same mayo, but that missing ingredient can never be recaptured. I wanted other people to experience my Dad's amazing egg salad, so I let Herb do it for me.

    1. Oh Lorraine, I fully understand that! Thank you for such a personal reply! Still want to have Egg Salad Sandwiches and a tea party for the next book! It would be lovely to share with you!

  3. P.S. Keep those amazing pictures coming. I look forward to seeing them every day on Facebook!

  4. I am a big fan of Lorraine as well. I have a budget that allows only one new cozy a month and this review made up my mind. You will love ordering books on your Kindle once you get used to it. It's not the same but a good alternative to paper books. It also saves you money as,Kindle books are less. My Mom made the best egg salad with green olives that I have never been able to replicate. I think the missing ingredients are love. Thanks for a great review.

  5. Great post! This book has been on my radar for a while. I look forward to get
    ting lost in Lotus Bay!
