Three Amigos Summer Reading Club Week 11- Final Week

I can not believe we are on our final Monday of our 11 week long Three Amigos Summer Reading Club. I sure hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have. The summer goes way too fast for me and it doesn't often slow down, sometimes I wish we could adopt that Island feeling and keep summer with us all year long.  This week our theme is Cozy Mystery Books about Islands and my pick was so hard to do I have had to PICK TWO to share. Hopefully the girls won't get too upset with me. Both these books are books I purchased for myself and bought the entire series as a result!
First my pick is Duffy Brown's Braking for Bodies.

I loved this series and this is book two.  Book one is an excellent read as well but I absolutely loved book two and that cover is one of my favorites.  I understand that we may yet get a book three from Duffy and I can not wait!

Moving from Los Angeles to small, picturesque Mackinac Island to work in a bike shop might seem crazy, but Evie knows it’s the best decision she’s ever made. That’s not to say she’s gotten rid of all her stress; after all, the upcoming Lilac Festival has everyone in town riding in circles. But things really go downhill when a ferry full of tourists—including Evie’s friend Fiona’s former boss, the editor of a sleazy rag in LA—arrives on the island. No one knows why Peephole Perry came all the way to Mackinac, but things aren’t looking good for Fiona when Peep is found dead. Now Evie has to gear up and get a grip on the truth if she wants to clear her friend’s name...

You can find Breaking for Bodies on Amazon by clicking here.

I would be totally remiss if I did not also recommend Skinny Dipping with Murder by Auralee Wallace, I mean laugh out loud funny, completely and utterly one of the funniest cozy mysteries I have ever read. I think this series is a must read for those who want a light and funny cozy, with outlandish characters and adventures.

Welcome to Otter Lake, where the relaxing, restorative atmosphere is to die for.

Erica Bloom is in no rush to return to Otter Lake, the site of her mother's spiritual retreat for women. Erica met her inner goddess years ago and she's happy to have forged a new identity on her own, thank you very much. But her new-age-y, well-meaning mother is losing her grip on the business, and needs Erica's help. So she heads back to her New Hampshire hometown, where nothing much has changed-except for maybe the body in the well...

These books are about finding the joy in the journey, something I think we all forget about sometimes and these books bring a smile to my face at the remembrance of both these very different but very enjoyable Island reads....

Three Amigos Summer Reading Club Week 10 Books about Bookstores and Cafes

If I had the means I would be opening my own book and tea shop, so todays theme is one I really like. I do dream of moving somewhere, opening my own place and have it be wildly successful even in the day of e-readers and unattainable real estate a girl can dream right?

My pick for this weeks theme is a first in series by a Canadian Author I enjoy Vicki Delany. She has a new series to love and get excited about with Elementary She Read.  A fantastic first in series, with a brilliant book shop owner named Gemma, a best friend (Jayne) we all wish we had and a mysterious character who I hope will be recurring. This cozy lays the groundwork for what I hope will be a multi book series.

Gemma Doyle, a transplanted English woman, has returned to the quaint town of West London on Cape Cod to manage her Great Uncle Arthur's Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium. The shop--located at 222 Baker Street--specializes in the Holmes canon and pastiche, and is also the home of Moriarty the cat. When Gemma finds a rare and potentially valuable magazine containing the first Sherlock Homes story hidden in the bookshop, she and her friend Jayne (who runs the adjoining Mrs. Hudson's Tea Room) set off to find the owner, only to stumble upon a dead body. The highly perceptive Gemma is the police’s first suspect, so she puts her consummate powers of deduction to work to clear her name, investigating a handsome rare books expert, the dead woman's suspiciously unmoved son, and a whole family of greedy characters desperate to cash in on their inheritance. But when Gemma and Jayne accidentally place themselves at a second murder scene, it's a race to uncover the truth before the detectives lock them up for good.

Three Amigos Summer Reading Club Week 9 Summer Food!

Week 9 here at the Three Amigos Summer Reading Club and this weeks theme is Summer Food Cozy Mysteries, my selection is...

Susan Furlong's Rest in Peach, This is a series I so enjoyed and nothing says summer food to me more than Peaches! (okay well burgers too, but that sweet soft warm ripe peach is a summer tradition!) This book was about summer, about the south about fun and family and coming together. I love this series and the recipes too, I think I need to go make some Peach Cobbler...

The annual Peach Cotillion, Cays Mill, Georgia’s biggest event, is fast approaching and Nola Mae Harper is just as excited as the rest of the town—even though she’s busy juggling both the cotillion dinner and the grand opening of her new shop, Peachy Keen. But she never expected that plans for the cotillion would end up in the pits because of the cutthroat competition between local debutantes. When Vivien Crenshaw, insufferable church organist and despised mother of the town’s spoiled-rotten Peach Queen, is stabbed to death, the police turn to Nola’s friend Ginny as prime suspect. Apparently the two had fought over a one-of-a-kind cotillion gown. As Nola steps in to prove Ginny’s innocence she soon finds herself picking through a bushel of suspects, twice as many motives, and at the mercy of a killer all too keen on killing again.

Three Amigos Summer Reading Club Week 8 Yard sales/Tag sales/Thrift Stores

Week 8 of 11 wow Summer is going so fast! Summer would not be summer without that clandestined tradition of  the summer yard sale, tag sale, incredible find! This week my selection is Vicki Vass' Murder For Sale, (this used to be titled Murder by the Spoonful) and is the first in a series I am a big fan of called the Antique Hunters Mystery Series. I love the new cover so much and when I read this book for the first time I thought WOW! I enjoyed it so much! You can read that original review by clicking here.

Two friends, both with wonderful and helpful pets, love interests that made sense and I hope stick around. Mysteries that made you want to not put the book down and a story that flowed seamlessly between the two main characters in each chapter. I was very impressed and delighted with this book and I hope you will be too.

Anne Hillstrom is hunting antiques, a diet that works and her Great Aunt Sybil's killer. This book tells the story of Anne and CC, two estate sale bloggers and antique hunters, who get more than they bargain for when they discover a killer who is hunting the antique hunter

Three Amigos Summer Reading Club Week 7 Paranormal/Ghost Stories

Week 7 and another favorite theme of mine, this one is Paranormal or Ghost Cozy. This was a hard one for me to chose from so many wonderful paranormal series I read, however my decision was made much easier by the fact that the book I have chosen called Bloodline by Vicki Vass was so exceptional and my desire to have the whole cozy community read it.

There is so much to love about this first in what I hope will be a long running series. Bloodline is Book 1 in the A Witch Cat Mystery Series. I could not put this book down, I read it in one sitting, not wanting to miss any part of the action. Fabulous concept, story, backstory, characters and heart. This is a book as a paranormal cozy mystery lover I was beyond excited about. The cover is fantastic and the mystery is divine. Main character Terra Rowan is unlike any main character you have ever read. Vicki Vass did an exceptional job with this one and threw some wonderful surprises in the book that felt like they were just for me!

I know my cat Squirrel and I were honored to get a special mug along with a copy of Bloodline for review...

If you need me I may just be between the pages sipping my tea at the Leaf and Page....

Three Amigos Summer Reading Club Week 6

Welcome back to our Three Amigos Summer Reading Club and my pick for this our 6th week and a theme I am so passionate about, Lighthouses.

This was me last year in the top of the Cape Mears Lighthouse, such a treat and a dream come true!

This is the outside I was actually right there in the light part!

But on to my selection and there are so many to choose from.

My selection this week is Ellery Adams and her Books by the bay series. READ THE SERIES.

I most recently read Killer Characters which is book 8 so if you have not yet read this series start with book one (A Killer Plot ) you will be glad you did!

Restaurant owner and aspiring novelist Olivia Limoges is happily enjoying her new marriage. Sadly, the same doesn’t hold true for Laurel, a fellow Bayside Book Writer. While struggling with a demanding job, twin boys, and a terminally ill mother-in-law, Laurel learns that her perfect marriage is mostly fictional. When she catches her husband fooling around with his mother’s hospice nurse, she issues impassioned threats that will later come back to haunt her.   After the nurse meets a deadly denouement, Chief Rawlings is forced to take Laurel into custody. While Olivia protests the arrest, the rest of the Bayside Book Writers become a group divided, with Rawlings and Harris on one side and Olivia and Millay on the other. Now the women must race against the clock to prove that Laurel’s not the sort for murder before her story ends in tragedy…

Three Amigos Summer Reading Club Week 5

Welcome to week 5 of our Three Amigos Summer Reading Club. This week our theme is B&B or Cozy Inn themed Mystery series books. My choice for this week is Krista Davis's Murder She Barked...

The Sugar Maple Inn in Wagtail, Virginia, is the country's premiere vacation hot spot for pet owners who can't bear to leave their furry friends behind. But this tourist town smells trouble when a killer goes on the prowl... Holly Miller's life has gone to the dogs. She has no job, her boyfriend's former flame is sniffing around, and a scruffy but loveable Jack Russell Terrier is scattering crumbs all over her borrowed car. Just when she thought things couldn't get worse, a troubling phone call about her grandmother sends her rushing home to the family inn on Wagtail Mountain. The staff--and a frisky Calico kitten named Twinkletoes--adopts Holly and her new dog on arrival. But someone in this friendly town is bad to the bone. One of the employees at the inn has been killed in a hit-and-run accident--which is looking anything but accidental. Now Holly and her furry companions will have to nose out the murderer before someone else gets muzzled.

Three Amigos Summer Reading Club Week 4

Week 4 of our Three Amigos Summer Reading Series and I am thrilled and excited to announce my pick for a Road Trip or Book About A Car.

Mine is Caught Dead Handed by Carol J Perry. I love this series! It is a paranormal series but has some great ties to witchcraft and a whole lot of fun with the main character Lee is a widowed NASCAR Drivers wife who starts life over with her aunt in Salem Massachusetts, I don't want to give too much away but she ends up with a pretty sweet ride!  I love this series and I hope you will give it a try!  It is so much better then the amazon write up shared below!

Most folks associate the city of Salem, Massachusetts with witches, but for Lee Barrett, it's home. This October she's returned to her hometown--where her beloved Aunt Ibby still lives--to interview for a job as a reporter at WICH-TV. But the only opening is for a call-in psychic to host the late night horror movies. It seems the previous host, Ariel Constellation, never saw her own murder coming. Lee reluctantly takes the job, but when she starts seeing real events in the obsidian ball she's using as a prop, she wonders if she might really have psychic abilities. To make things even spookier, it's starting to look like Ariel may have been an actual practicing witch--especially when O'Ryan, the cat Lee and Aunt Ibby inherited from her, exhibits some strange powers of his own. With Halloween fast approaching, Lee must focus on unmasking a killer--or her career as a psychic may be very short lived. . .
